WOO GRL!
Woo Grl! is a movement, a megaphone, and a home base for women-fronted bands and underrepresented artists. It sparked in the winter of 2018 when Kristin Newborn asked a simple question on Facebook, where are all the women-fronted bands in Indianapolis? More than 100 people showed up with links and names, Within months, Newborn joined forces with Nicole O’Neal and Ariana Beedie to build a one day festival that centered the voices too often pushed to the margins. The first Woo Grl! took over Fountain Square at Pioneer and Square Cat Vinyl, and donated proceeds to Girls Rock Indianapolis so future young grls could plug in, turn up, and take the stage.
The festival paused after 2019 due to Covid, but the mission did not. Woo Grl! is evolving from a single day spark into an always on ecosystem. We listen to the community. We program with intention. We champion musicians, visual artists, producers, small businesses, and the crews behind the scenes who keep the lights on. If you make, move, or mentor art, you belong here.
